It started a decade ago in Santa Barbara, California. Designing beautiful artwork has always been our passion. Our mission is to inspire people to feel calm and peaceful in their homes or businesses.
Initially, we explored live moss walls and vertical gardens, but found them challenging to maintain due to their watering requirements, light sensitivity, and need for constant attention. We needed a better solution. This led us to using preserved moss, lichen, and plants for a truly care-free experience – all while keeping the stunning beauty of the real plants. Our work brings the inspiration of nature indoors, so you can enjoy the soothing greenery every day.
We have traveled to Japan extensively and are inspired by the Japanese aesthetic. Our work aims to showcase the natural world and the sense of calm reflection contained therein. Moss wall art is a green wall, akin to a mini Zen garden in your home.
Our frames are unique, carefully designed, and handmade in-house with intentional craftsmanship. Once the build is complete, each frame undergoes a distinctive finishing process—burning with fire. This is a traditional Japanese technique called shou sugi ban (焼杉板), which literally translates to “burnt cedar board.” For centuries, this method was used in Japan to char cedar planks for residential siding, fencing, and decking, offering not only a striking aesthetic but also functional protection.
The process of burning the wood preserves it against time, fire, and insects, while revealing dramatic textures and patterns that make every frame one-of-a-kind. Once charred, the wood is treated with a natural preserving oil that enriches its color and further enhances its durability. Beyond its functional benefits, this technique embodies the Japanese principle of wabi-sabi—finding beauty in imperfection and honoring the natural character of the material.
Each frame, therefore, is not just a border for our moss art, but a piece of art in itself—merging heritage, sustainability, and timeless beauty.
